Why am I writing a blog?

Updated: Sep 23, 2022

A fun fact about me? My Bachelors in Communication came with an emphasis in Journalism. I've always loved to write, to tell stories to others, which is why I love wedding videography so much. After all of the hustle and bustle of filming, I get to sit down, go through my footage, and select the pieces of a couple's story. I string them together, creating a visual memory that will last a lifetime. It gives me all the feels.

And this is why I'm writing a blog, to tell stories. Stories about myself, stories about wedding days, stories about every day life, discoveries, etc. Because I believe stories and memories are what hold people together.

So let me start this first blog post off with my own story.

I was born and raised in Kansas City, the best city to call home. The fourth out of five, with three older brothers and one younger sister; my parents really had their hands full with all of us. Especially when we would constantly compete against one another in physical and mental feats. What childhood. To strangers I was shy and quiet, but to my family and friends, I was the exact opposite. I channeled my energy into classical ballet, singing, acting, and track and field. I grew up taught to be strong, think for myself, and love those around me.

When college approached, funny story, I had no idea what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Nowadays society is coming to the realization that, hey, that's normal for an 18-year-old. But eight years ago, society told me the exact opposite. So I started out with my Associates at MCC Maple Woods, toured some college campuses, and finally landed on the school that would change my direction in life: Northwest Missouri State University. At Northwest I found my passion for radio, TV, media, photography and film. I learned more and more in every class; I was excited to do homework assignments. And I carried this passion with me as I transferred to The University of Missouri-Kansas City.

After graduation, I got a job in social media marketing, but Covid had other plans for me. I remember feeling so defeated. I knew I would find a new career, but I wanted something more. For as long as I could remember, I wanted something that was my own. I didn't want to work a 9 - 5, I wanted flexibility and creativity. So, in my exact words to my parents, "I'm going to try to go for it with my videography, at this point I have nothing to lose."

Looking back on that seemingly "random" decision of mine, I now know it was so much more than those words to my parents. It was me, deciding to have confidence in myself and my talents. It was me, deciding to take a risk with a job I considered fun. It was me, making a professional decision and trusting God on where it would go. And I'm so thankful and grateful.

I've met so many wonderful couples and learned so much about the wedding vendor world. This business has made me shed a few tears, but have a lot of laughs. Quinn and I make it our goal to serve each couple on their wedding day - through film and any other ways - we want you to have the best wedding day possible.

I love sharing about my life and these experiences. I love letting people know what I do, what I go through, and all the emotions that come with it. And I love that I have a husband who is, not only my second shooter, but my main supporter, my shoulder to cry on, and the one I get to go through my life story with. So as I close, I want to thank you for your support. Thank you for being part of this. Thank you for reading my story.
